This morning I was asking the Lord to comfort me. Sometimes the way gets lonely! Right after praying, I opened my Bible randomly to Isaiah chapter 40:1+2; “Comfort, yes, comfort my people! Says your God. Speak comfort to Jerusalem (Jenny), and cry out to her, That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned…”
I started to think of other verses about comfort, and this theme of the Lord holding my hand came to mind.
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:10; Isaiah 41:13)
“I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles,
To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.” (Isaiah 42:6+7)
“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:16)
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27+28)
The apostle Paul felt alone at times too. These were his words. “At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them. *But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.” (2 Timothy 4:16+17; See also 1 Peter 5:8+9)
“BUT THE LORD!” If we didn’t have Him! How lost and alone we would be!
Jesus came and spoke to them, (His disciples) saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, *I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
“I AM WITH YOU!” What a promise! What a gift! For truly it is, “in His presence that there is fullness of joy!” (Psalm 16:11)
